Truck Tire Rims
Welcome to our site. Here you will
find information on truck tires and
accessories.
Truck tire rims are the metallic central rims on which the
rubber tires get mounted and the wheel then attaches to the
tire-axis of the truck. Selecting appropriate rim for the truck
needs a sound know-how of the variety, material, size and
purpose of use of the rims available in the market. Price and
weight of the rim are major criteria for selection of tire
rims.
You should know the exact size of the rim that you require.
The size of truck tire rims is measured in different way since
the size of the wheel is dependent on the tire. R12, R14, R16
etc alpha-numeric combinations are used to denote the size
where the digital part indicates the diameter of tire it can
mount and the alphabet part denotes type (here R is for radial)
of the tire. Sometimes the size is stamped as '16x8x5.2', where
the first number '16' indicates the diameter of the rim and
that it will support a 16" tire. The middle '8' denotes the
width of the rim and the last part indicates the bolt 'pattern'
and measured by the distance in between two farthest bolt
holes. Whether the rim will work with the tire or not that is
determined by two other measurements- the 'offset' and the
'backspace'.
Before you change the older factory rims, know in detail the
specifications for them from the manual. Generally trucks can
mount tire rims that are slightly bigger (by 1- 2 inch maximum)
than their original rims but the changed rim size will affect
the performance and style of your truck.
The next important part is the weight of the rim. The weight
of the factory rim is always in accordance with the load
capacity of your truck. If your truck is small and meant to
carry lighter material in short distances you can select a
light-weight rim. Such rims give a boost to save fuel and
enhance speed. However for heavy load trucks and for long
distance transports a heavy weight rim is preferable. Heavy
weight durable rims can withstand the vehicle load and perform
better in the long run. You have to adjust the
speedometer and the weight capacity of the truck if you buy a
heavier or lighter rim.
The body-material of the truck tire rims is also very
important. Shiny chrome and platinum rims are very stylish and
give gorgeous appearance. Alloy metal rims are attractive but
better be avoided due to their light weight for heavy duty
trucks. Steel and Aluminium wheel rims are cheaper and
preferred for trucks of general use. Chrome rims are costlier
but durable and have great appeal.
Broadly truck tire rims are of two categories: Performance
rims and functional rims. The first one is dedicated to bring
style and look of the vehicle while the latter rims are
developed to serve various functions like bearing heavy or
light load, withstanding various climatic conditions
etc.
