Truck Snow Tires
Welcome to our site. Here you will
find information on truck tires and
accessories.
In special environmental condition like the freezing cold
and snow, normal all season tires cannot work properly but the
special truck snow tires are dedicated to perform efficiently
in such situations. They are different from all season tires
and made in such way so that they can withstand the chilling
frost and ride through snow covered roads. Studies have shown
that cars with snow tires, riding on snow at 15 miles/hour
stopped when brake was drawn, much faster and at shorter
distance than same cars without snow tires. This safety on
snow-covered road is ensured only by snow tires.
The special rubber compound used to make the tread of the
snow tire is softer than normal tires. They can withstand great
winter climates but wear quickly in warm climate. The tread
design of these tires is such that they provide better grip and
handling of the brake not to slip on ice and snowy roads. The
tread of small light weight trucks bear sipes, which are fine
void spaces in the lugs and contribute to better grip on ice.
The tread of the truck snow tires often bear rubber or metal
studs that confer in gripping and increase friction thus
preventing slipping and controlling brake during a drive.
However sipes and studs (metal studs) are not recommended for
heavy duty trucks as they produce more damage to the
road.
You should start using the truck snow tires exactly when the
temperature goes below ten degree centigrade and must not
forget to remove them when temperature rises. This will prevent
the winter tires from wearing due to summer heat. Winter tires
should be stored in separate storage bags in cool dry places,
e.g. in the basement or garage and stacked over one
another.
While buying a winter tire you should notice two important
features, the pressure rating and the speed rating. The
pressure capacity and specifications must be maintained because
in cold weather, tire pressure decreases and under inflation
will cause damage to the tread. Snow tires come with Q speed
rating, lower than normal tires because there is every chance
of slipping if one drives in high speed in snowy roads like
normal trucks. Besides, the width of truck snow tires is
narrower than normal tires.
Snow tires bear special symbols for their targeted purpose.
If a tire does not bear any such logo, its performance is not
guaranteed. Most good quality truck snow tires bear a 'mud and
snow' pictograph or 'M&S' (M = mud, S = snow) designation
or the words 'mud and snow' to indicate that they are specially
developed for use in such conditions. Some companies use
'mountain/ snow flake' symbol for such tires. Bridgestone,
Michelin, Goodyear, Pirelli, Dunlop, Continental, General etc.
are some famous brands which produce various types of snow
tires.
