Commercial Truck Tires
Welcome to our site. Here you will
find information on truck tires and
accessories.
In the market of all varieties of trucks, the commercial
trucks are the highest heavy duty vehicles and therefore
automobile part manufacturing companies take special care while
developing, manufacturing and post-sell maintenance of
commercial truck tires. The after sell care of the tires is a
new concept of surviving and expanding business in today’s
market of competition. However it was required for the
commercial tires.
In US, a ‘gross vehicle weight rating’ (GVWR) method is
followed to classify the trucks into eight classes ranging from
class 1 to class 8. Thus the commercial trucks are grouped
according to their size for the convenience of buyers, users,
automobile part manufacturing companies and sellers. The
driving license in US also is different for different class of
trucks. The drivers must carry a ‘commercial driver’ license
while driving class 7 and class 8 trucks.
Some examples of this grouping are - Ford 150, 250 etc are
class 1 trucks, Ford 650 and 750 belong to class 2, GMC Sonoma
and Canyon are class 3, GMC Sierra 1500-3500 come under class
4, GMC W3500- 6500 are class 5 trucks, GMC 7500 and 8500 are
class 6 trucks, Ford E 150-450 trucks are class 7 and GMC’s
Safari Cargo, Savana Cargo and Savana Cutaway are class 8
commercial trucks.
Due to this huge variety in functioning and size commercial
truck tires also vary according to necessity. As every company
has a fixed budget for its transportation purpose, hardly they
tend to invest for replacing old tires by new ones which gives
a boost to the used and retreaded tire market. To hold a firm
grip in such market condition, now-a-days most top truck
dealers are giving extended servicing for commercial tires post
buying. The Goodyear, Bridgestone etc. are famous for their
servicing outlets. Many dealers have found a strategy to live
in this market by giving post sell servicing and retread tire
business apart from their new tires selling outlets.
Some manufacturers (e.g. ‘Bridgestone Bandag tire
solutions’) have started avoiding the ‘use by’ date on
commercial truck tires and tire parts. Commercial dealer does
not mean only new tire sellers, it also include retread and
repairing service providers. The commercial tires are
manufactured in special way so that they render safety for long
use, durability, heavy load bearing capacity and high
speed.
The drivers should maintain commercial truck tires
professionally. They are supposed to check the air pressure and
inflation per trip daily. Training for effective tire
monitoring is available from professional in most places. If a
commercial tire is removed from service it is inspected by
repair and retread professionals and returned after replacing
the scars. This service is provided by the manufacturers.
Survey reports have revealed that if properly maintained,
commercial truck tires give good service for ten years or
more.
