Big Truck Tires
Welcome to our site. Here you will
find information on truck tires and
accessories.
Big truck tires are the largest tires manufactured by rubber
and tire companies for the over-sized trucks. According to US
classification all class 6-8 trucks require big tires. The
Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of big trucks will be more than
26,000 lbs or 130 tons. The long hauls dedicated to heavy
duties of public sector, construction, mines and industries,
have big tires.
The heavy duty big trucks cause a lot of road damage by
their heavy load weight and axle weight. The number of axles is
3 or more in big trucks. Many countries do not permit a 6-axle
to carry more than 551 tons to ensure safety of road. Because
of this heavy carriage, big truck tires need special mechanism
to maintain wear, long durability and good functioning.
Big truck tires with good mileage can be effective in
reducing air pollution created by big trucks. Big “heavy duty”
trucks are responsible for producing the ‘smog’ in urban areas
and emit pollutants equivalent to 150 small cars if not
properly serviced.
Big trucks are a reason for most road accidents and no doubt
the big truck tires can contribute in enhancing traction,
better steer and brake response to some extent to prevent
mishaps.
The big tires measure 25 inch or more in diameter. To ensure
vehicle and passenger safety the big tires should be properly
inflated. Air pressure must not cross the maximum level
indicated in the factory manual of the wheel. Under or over
inflation is responsible for tire damage and mishaps during
ride. As big trucks are always engaged in long journeys, the
driver should check the tire condition everyday to ensure
safety.
The built-up and tread pattern of big truck tires vary
according to the road condition and drive-axle position. Tires
are different for steer, drive and trailer axles and
application-wise tires are specialized for on/off road,
all-season and all condition, all-terrain.
The Michelin tire company is a leading company with
efficient expertise for developing big truck tires. Michelin’s
X-radial tires are specialized for long haul heavy load big
trucks. The tire is made up of several layers- several steel
ply layers make the crown portion, the casing is made up of one
radial steel layer; all layers are separated by strong rubber
layers. Michelin’s X-radial tiers show excellent performance in
any type of land, from soft loose sand to rough and tough rocky
roads.
Mud and snow are two special environments where normal
on/off road and other big truck tires cannot work. Michelin’s
XDE® M/S big truck tires have open shoulder tread with
aggressive design that cuts swath through mud and snow and
provide excellent traction. Biggest XDE M/S and M/S* tires can
efficiently carry loads per axle up to 21,420 lbs and 24,020lbs
respectively in extreme climatic conditions.
